Model T Ford Insulators

Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", April 1992, page 19

First mobile radio police unit was this Model T Ford with roof-mounted grid antenna, used by station 8BNE of Detroit Police Department in mid 1921. Standing alongside is department's first official radio operator Barney Fitzgerald.

John deSousa, Membership Chairman for the National Insulator Association, not only has an interest in insulators, lightning rod balls and weathervanes, he is also very active in the restoration of old cars. John sent along the picture which appeared in The Restorer Volume 17, Issue 1, 1972. The magazine is published by the Model A Ford Club of America, 250 S. Cypress Street, LaHabra, California 90631-5586

John pointed out the two rows of white porcelain insulators atop the Model T Ford. A priceless picture wouldn't you say?
